Welcome to June's Hockey Happenings!
June saw a busy period for both the Senior squads as they continue the build up towards the European Championships in Belgium in late August.

The Senior Men travelled to Rotterdam in their bid to qualify for next year's World Cup in the Hague. A top three finish guaranteed them entry but unfortunately a draw against India and defeats to New Zealand and Holland left them battling it out with France for 7th and 8th place. After finding themselves 4-0 against the French they showed tremendous courage and spirit to come back and win the game 6-4.

The Electric Ireland Senior Women also had a busy period, with a 3 match Series against Canada in Dublin followed by games against Scotland and Wales in Mossley. Nikki Symmons won her 200th Cap against Canada, Alex Speers won her 150th Cap against Wales and Shirley McCay played her 150th international the following day against Scotland. All tremendous achievements so congratulations to Nikki, Alex and Shirley.

Both under 18 squads were announced for their European Championships, the boys heading to Poland and the girls hosting the tournament in Dublin at the end of July. Best of luck to all the stars of the future and make sure you get down to UCD to support a fantastic tournament.

England win Masters home nations with Ireland second overall
Strong performances from the England Over 40s and Over 45s against Ireland in the last day of the tournament was enough for them to retain the cups for the respective age categories.  While England retained the Over 50s title it was a more complex affair as they were beaten by England Over 55s in the morning so that they only regained the cup on goal difference, with the Irish Over 50s having the same number of points.
